What the interaction means

Amlodipine's FDA prescribing information states: "In vitro data indicate that amlodipine has no effect on the human plasma protein binding of digoxin, phenytoin, warfarin, and indomethacin," and separately: "Co-administration of amlodipine with warfarin did not change the warfarin prothrombin response time." The Norvasc brand label independently corroborates this in section 12.3: "Co-administered amlodipine does not affect the exposure to atorvastatin, digoxin, ethanol and the warfarin prothrombin response time."

Why it may happen

Not a mechanism concern per the label -- amlodipine does not displace warfarin from plasma protein binding and does not alter warfarin's anticoagulant (prothrombin) response in the co-administration study described.
