Vitamin D

A fat-soluble vitamin the body needs for normal growth, bone health, and calcium absorption.

Supplement

What it is

Vitamin D is a nutrient the body needs for normal growth and development. It helps the body absorb calcium and supports nerve function, muscle movement, and immune function. The two forms found in supplements are D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol); both raise vitamin D levels in the blood, though D3 might raise it higher and for longer than D2.

Food and timing considerations

Vitamin D is fat-soluble, so it's absorbed better when taken with a meal or snack that includes some fat.
