Supplement

What it is

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a substance naturally present in the human body, with the highest levels in the heart, liver, kidneys, and pancreas. It's available in the U.S. as a dietary supplement. Research on its effectiveness for heart disease, heart failure, and statin-related muscle pain has been inconclusive; a major NIH-funded study found it does not improve symptoms in early Parkinson's disease. NCCIH describes it as generally safe with only mild reported side effects.
